Converting carbohydrates into sugars is one of the most important processes in life. We have developed an educational amylase enzyme kit perfect to introduce students and adults into the world of enzymes.
Our kit includes all the ingredients needed to conduct multiple starch digestion experiments. The experiment is monitored using a colorimetric readout and refractometer.
Suitable for ages 11+ (under the supervision of a competent adult).
Kit includes:
- Step-by-step instructions.
- A4 educational poster about amylase.
- Amylase 100 mL bottle.
- 200 g of potato starch.
- 200 g of crushed malt.
- Lugol's Iodine solution 100 mL bottle.
- 1x Portable Refractometer.
- 3x measuring spoons.
- 3x 3 mL Pasture pipettors.
- 1x 500 mL beaker.
- 3x 6-well trays for sampling.
Amylase derived from fungal organism. Temperature range 15-99 degrees. pH range 3.5-10.0.
Requires:
• Boiling water from a kettle (caution, adult supervision).
• Stop watch.
• You are advised to wear personal protective equipment (PPE), including gloves, laboratory coat and safety googles.
• Optional: Potatoes.
