Introducing the S&T AI Enzyme Blend Builder
Scientific & Technical has launched a new AI-powered Enzyme Blend Builder, designed to make the development of bespoke enzyme formulations faster, simpler and more accessible.
Rather than selecting a standard off-the-shelf enzyme blend, customers can now configure a formulation around the requirements of their own process.
The new online tool allows users to select a suitable enzyme format, choose the enzyme activities they require, adjust their relative proportions and create a custom multi-enzyme formulation directly through the Scientific & Technical website.
From application to enzyme blend
Enzyme formulations rarely have a universal composition. Different applications encounter different substrates, operating conditions and performance requirements.
For example, a cleaning formulation targeting predominantly starch residues may benefit from a higher proportion of amylase, while formulations designed for proteinaceous contamination may require greater protease activity. Oils and fats can be targeted with lipase, while cellulase and mannanase can be incorporated where plant fibres, cellulose or gum-derived residues are important.
Our new Blend Builder provides a simple way to translate these requirements into a defined multi-enzyme formulation.
For cleaning applications, users can currently configure blends containing:
- Amylase – targeting starch-based residues
- Protease – targeting proteins
- Lipase – targeting fats and oils
- Cellulase – targeting cellulose and fibre residues
- Mannanase – targeting mannans and gum-derived residues
The tool converts the selected relative enzyme parts into a percentage formulation, making it easy to see exactly how the final blend is composed.
Liquid and granulated enzyme formulations
Formulation requirements extend beyond enzyme selection. The physical format of the enzymes can be equally important.
The Blend Builder therefore supports multiple formulation formats, including liquid enzymes, cellulose granulates and titanium dioxide (TiO₂) granulates. This allows customers to develop blends appropriate for both liquid and powder-based product systems.

The system has been designed to shorten the route from an initial formulation idea to an evaluation product.
Users can select their application, configure the relative enzyme proportions, choose an available pack size and add the bespoke formulation directly to their cart. The selected enzyme ratio and application are retained as custom blend specifications with the order.
For customers who are unsure where to begin, predefined starting points can also provide balanced, starch-heavy, protein-heavy or grease-heavy formulations before further optimisation.
Combining AI with enzyme expertise
The purpose of the tool is not to replace formulation development, but to make the first stage of enzyme selection considerably easier.
Once an initial formulation has been identified, enzyme concentration, treatment conditions, stability and performance can be optimised experimentally for the customer's particular application.
